SBA Rock n' Soul Band

The SBA Rock n' Soul Band is a unique band at SBA. They use Memphis' music heritage of STAX, Sun Studios, Blues, Pop and Rock as the inspiration for their music. They perform traditional Memphis music pieces as well as some original songs at various events at the school and around the community. The Rock n' Soul Band has performed in front of Magic Johnson, B.B. King and the Dali Lama at the Civil Rights Freedom Awards, The Court Square Concert Series, and they were the house band for Joyce Cobb when she performed at SBA. The band is featured on many CD's of Memphis Music Artists including Charlie Wood. They are multiple winners of Downbeat Magazine's Outstanding Performance in the Blues/Pop/Rock Award recognizing them as one of the best bands in the nation.

SBA Jazz Band

The SBA Jazz Band take the Jazz sounds of Memphis and New Orleans and intertwine them for a wonderful and unique sound. They have performed with many local Memphis musicians including Reba Russel, Jackie Jonson, Jimme Davis, Devan Allmand and Honeytribe and Joyce Cobb. The Jazz Band was also featured on an episode of WKNO's Southern Routes. They have received the highest honors at The University of Memphis Jazz Festival and have had many students selected for the All-West Tennessee Jazz Band.

SBA Concert Band

The SBA Concert Band is open to any student who plays a band instrument. They learn music fundamentals: reading notation, sound production, technique, ensemble playing, dynamics and style. There is an emphasis on basic music theory. The band class is the basis of the performing Concert Band and the Pep Band. They perform at many concerts at SBA and in the community, pep rallies and home football and basketball games.
