Congratulations to the Boys’ Cross Country team who finished a commendable season with a solid performance this past weekend at the State Championships in Nashville, TN. Tying for 3rd, the score went to a tiebreaker of scoring the sixth varsity runner causing SBA to finish 4th overall out of 11 teams; however, the Eagles still managed to place above all of the teams in Div. II-AA of the western region of the state. The top 5 runners of the varsity team finished in the top 30 overall and were led by senior Jay Gilman, who placed 12th with a time of 17:18. Gilman was followed closely by sophomore Colin Pitawanakwat who also contributed to the team’s final score finishing 16th with a time of 17:27. Next season, the Eagles will have 13 returning runners of all grade levels planning to maintain their dominance in the region and improve their standing throughout the state.

The SBA Boys Cross Country for finished second behind Cordova in the WTCCL County Championship at Shelby Farms. Led by seniors Jay Gilman and Matt McCurdy with the times of 17:11 and 17:18, the Eagles created a sizable gap between themselves and the other 16 county teams that participated in the meet. For the first time this season, the top five runners on the squad finished in under 17 minutes and three of the runners achieved a new personal record. Since this was the last regular season meet, the team will be moving forward over the next two weeks and preparing for the State Championships in Nashville on November 6.

The Boys’ Cross Country team gave a commendable performance this past weekend in the SouthEast XC Showdown in Hoover, AL placing seventh out of 18 teams from several surrounding states. Leading the team, sophomore Colin Pitawanakwat completed the race with a time of 17:33 finishing 25th out of 158 runners. Senior Jay Gilman and sophomore Rickey Morning also kept the Eagles moving with the respective times of 17:56 and 17:57.
The JV team’s last race will be this week in the JV County Championships which is Thurs., Oct. 14 with the boys’ race starting at 4:45pm. The Varsity team will be competing in the main County Championships on Sat., Oct.16 at 9:45am. After this, the culmination of the season will be the state tournament to be held at the Steeplechase course in Nashville, TN on Sat., Nov. 6.

The Boys competed in the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic and had a commendable performance finishing 12th out of 47 teams. Sophomore leader Colin Pitawanakwat finished with a time of 17:07 and veteran senior runner Matt McCurdy achieved a personal record of 17:16. The JV team also performed well with freshman Josh Cartwright leading the group with a time of 19:00.

The SBA Boys' Cross Country team gave a solid performance this weekend at the Junior Ward Tennessee Classic in Nashville. They finished 12th place out of 44 teams in the competitive Gold Division and were led by sophomore Colin Pitawanakwat, who finished 31st out of 317 runners with a time of 17:32. Senior leader, Jay Gilman also had a notable finish at 39th place with a time of 17:47. The team will be running in a League Meet on Tuesday, September 21 @ 5:30 at Shelby Farms on the "Shelby 78" course and the Varsity team's next big race will be this Saturday at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic @ 7pm

The boys cross country team gave a strong effort finishing third overall behind Cordova (1st) and Houston (2nd) in the opening jamboree. Our top five runners finished the race in under 18:30. Special recognition goes to sophomore Colin Pitawanakwat for finishing third overall with a time of 17:12 and to senior Jay Gilman for finishing ninth overall with a time of 17:40.
