John Cooley
Head Coach

Alma Mater: Harding University & University of Memphis

Coach John Cooley begins his second season as the Head Coach of the Saint Benedict at Auburndale Eagles. Coach Cooley has become synonymous with high school football in the Mid South, particularly as a head coach. Coach Cooley has served as a football coach at Havenview Junior High School, Ridgeway High School, Horn Lake High School, Olive Branch High School, Northpoint Christian School, and Marion High School, with an overall coaching record of 221-125-1.

Coach Cooley’s teams have annually made appearances in the state championship playoffs, including a state championship in 2002. While coaching at Ridgeway High School, his teams advanced to the state playoffs 18 of 22 years, making it to the quarter finals in 1991, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, & 2005, and to the semifinals in 2002 and 2005. Coach Cooley’s teams earned 7 district championships and 6 MIAA championships. He has had the privilege of coaching seven Tennessee “Mr. Football” finalists, including four winners.

Coach Cooley was awarded the Tennessee State Coach of the Year in 2002. In addition, he was named Regional Coach of the Year nine times. Coach Cooley was the assistant coach in the Tennessee-Kentucky All Star Game in 1992. The Memphis Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame presented Coach Cooley with the prestigious “Rex Award” in 1994. He has coached numerous National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame scholar athletes, including all three of his sons. The Tennessee Titans awarded Coach Cooley the “Coach of the Week” Award in 2004. He served as an Assistant Coach in the 2005 Liberty Bowl All Star Game and as Head Coach in 2006. DJ Boldin
Special Teams Coordinator, Defensive Backs, Wide Receivers

As a former NFL coach and professional athlete, Coach Boldin has the experience needed to help athletes improve. He coached at the highest level, the NFL, from 2011-2016 as an Offensive Assistant for the San Francisco 49ers. Before working in the NFL, he coached for the Palm Beach Crush in 2012-13, serving as an Offensive Coordinator and mentoring wide receivers and quarterbacks. In 2017, he served as the Offensive Coordinator for Middle College High School in Memphis. As an NFL player, Coach Boldin was a receiver for the Detroit Lions in the NFL and the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL. He was named ACC All-Freshman at Wake Forest University in 2005 and ACC All-First Team in 2008.

Will Hudgens
Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach
Alma Mater:  University of Memphis
Coach Hudgens begins his first year with SBA Eagles working as our Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach.  He joins SBA after serving as Head Coach for 5 years at Houston High School with a 30-24 record.    Coach Hudgens graduated from Ridgeway High School in 2004.  Hudgens was Cooley's star quarterback on the Ridgeway team that won a state championship in 2002.  He was an All-Metro pick in football and baseball four years at Ridgeway High School. He went on to play football and baseball for University of Memphis.  At University of Memphis, he finished his football career ranked in the school's top 10 in multiple passing categories. He also received one of the Top Tiger Award in 2008 and Role Player Award in 2007.  Coach Hudgens was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2008 MLB draft. 

Brian Jacks
Running Backs Coordinator

This is Coach Jacks’ second year at Saint Benedict at Auburndale. Last year he served as the Head Coach for the freshman team. This year his role will be the running backs coordinator. From 2013 to 2015, Coach Jacks served as the head coach and offensive coordinator for the Saint Francis Middle School football team.

Dr. Tim Pangonas
Line Coach

Alma Mater: Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA
Dr. Pangonas joins the SBA Football Coaching Staff this year. He played high school football in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and then continued playing at Bucknell University. He was a three-year starter at offensive tackle and long snapper for the Bucknell Bison of the FBS Patriot League. Dr. Pangonas was also a nationally ranked collegiate wrestler for the Bucknell Bison for four years and received the award as the most outstanding multi-sport athlete at Bucknell. Prior to SBA, Dr. Pangonas served thirty years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Captain. Dr. Pangonas has embraced the SBA Eagle family in the classroom and now on the field of competition. This is his third year as a member of the SBA Mathematics Department Faculty.

Brent Patton
Wide Receiver & Linebacker Coach

Coach Patton has been an SBA baseball coach for five years. This is his third year teaching history at St. Benedict. He will be working with the linebackers and the wide receivers. Coach Patton has taught US History at Saint Benedict at Auburndale for five years. He is married to his wife Brittany Wright. His coaching philosophy is “Play hard every snap. Play for the name on the jersey.
