November 5, 2011

The girls’ cross country team had an outstanding finish to the season at the TSSAA State Championships in Nashville, TN this past weekend. The Lady Eagles edged out Baylor to place 2nd behind Harpeth Hall and were led by junior Madison Lessley and sophomore Mayson Morrissett. Lessley and Morrissett finished 5th & 6th with a matching time of 20:02 followed by junior Madison Smith who finished 9th with a time of 20:47. However, the girls’ runner-up placing is largely due to sophomore Jessa Sudduth who, in the last 200yards of the race, sprinted in a fantastic finish besting Baylor’s 4th and 5th runners. The Lady Eagles will lose only one varsity runner going into next season and will look to maintain their dominance in the region as well as the state.


October 15, 2011

The Lady Eagles finished the regular season with an outstanding performance this weekend in the West TN Cross Country League Championships. The girls’ finished 1st place overall led by junior Madison Lessley who finished 3rd with a time of 20:01. Sophomore Mayson Morrissett followed at 4th place with a time of 20:03 and junior Madison Smith also finished in the top 10 at 7th place with a time of 20:46. All top 5 of the varsity girls finished in the top 25 of the race. The JV girls team also performed well finishing 2nd place overall in the JV race led by sophomore Jenny McKenzie who finished 2nd place with a time of 22:22. The varsity team now looks forward to competing in the TSSAA State Championships in Nashville, TN on Saturday, November 5th.


October 1, 2011

This past weekend, the girls’ cross country team participated in the 23rd Annual Frank Horton Invitational hosted by CBHS finishing 2nd overall as a team. Sophomore Mayson Morrissett had a breakout race finishing 7th with a time of 20:08 followed closely by junior Madison Smith who finished 9th with a time of 20:33. Sophomore Jessa Sudduth also had an outstanding finish against White Station’s fifth runner to give the Lady Eagles the edge to finish 2nd place. The varsity team looks forward to competing next weekend in the Southeast XC Showdown in Hoover, AL on October 8th. The JV team also competed well in their respective race and were led by sophomore Emily Shelton who finished 4th with a time of 22:37. Freshman Mary-Catherine Morning and sophomore Jenny McKenzie finished close behind in 5th and 6th place with times of 22:38 and 22:53. The JV will look to continue their streak of personal record achievements this Tuesday at Shelby Farms @ 5:00pm.


September 20, 2011

The JV girls’  team competed in their first league meet this past Tuesday against several other teams from the tri-state area and performed reasonably well. The Lady Eagles were led by sophomore Emily Shelton who finished in 12th place with a time of 24:17, followed closely by sophomore Adrienne Lewis (with a time of 24:26) and freshman Mary-Catherine Morning (with a time of 25:22) to round out the top finishers of the race. Many of the other girls on the team achieved personal records at the race and will be looking to improve upon their race times in the next league meet, which will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27th at Shelby Farms.

The girls’ cross country team finished well this past weekend in the Jr. Ward Tennessee High School Classic in Nashville, TN. The Lady Eagles finished 7th out of 31 teams led by junior Madison Lessley, who finished 24th out of 231 runners with a time of 20:44. The girls were barely outshined by divisional rival Baylor, but maintained their dominance over teams from the western region of the state including Collierville, St. Agnes, Hutchison, Germantown, Bolton, and White Station. Senior Carley Vandeven and junior Jessa Sudduth both had breakout performances as well by significantly lowering their race times from their previous race.  The varsity team’s next race will be October 1st at the 23rd Annual Frank Horton Invitational hosted by CBHS. The JV team will compete this Tuesday, Sept. 20th at Shelby Farms for what will be their first league meet.

The Lady Eagles also competed at the Brooks Memphis Twilight at Mike Rose. Freshman Mary-Catherine Morning led the JV race for a considerable distance and eventually finished in the top 25 with a time of 24:19. The Lady Eagles’ Varsity team outran many of the teams within their respective region finishing 6th overall out of 36 teams. Junior Madison Lessley had an outstanding race finishing 10th place out of 275 runners with a time of 19:45. The Lady Eagles will look to maintain their dominance at the JR Ward Tennessee High School Classic on September 17 in Nashville, TN.

The Lady Eagles had a successful start to the 2011-12 cross country season this past weekend at the West Tennessee Cross Country League’s Jamboree. The top 3 varsity runners medaled for finishing in the top 15 overall and the entire varsity team finished in under 24 minutes. They were led by junior Madison Lessley who finished with a time of 20:31 followed closely by junior Madison Smith who finished at 20:38.  Sophomore Mayson Morrisett, a new-comer to the team, also capped off her first varsity race by finishing at a respectable time of 21:13. The girls’ team will now look forward to competing in the Brooks’ Memphis Twilight Invitational hosted by CBU at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex on the evening of Saturday, September 3.
