October 30, 2010

The Lady Eagles fell just short of advancing to the State quarterfinals as they lost to BGA 4-3. Alex Bickenbach scored twice for the Lady Eagles, once from the penalty spot and senior Julie Eckel posted the other SBA point. The girls chalked up a winning record for the year is at 8-3-5.

The JV team played to a 0-0 tie with Briarcrest. They played a solid defensive game, which has been their trademark this season. They finish the season with an 8W-3L-5D record and a championship in the St George JV "Smackdown" tournament.The Varsity defeated Briarcrest 3-0 in perhaps their most complete game this season against a tough divisional opponent. The victory earns them the #2 seed in the West Region for the state playoffs and an automatic spot in the Sub-State round. The Lady Eagles will have a bye this weekend and play a home playoff game on Saturday, Oct. 30. The team ends the regular season with an 8W-2L-5D record.

The Girls' Varsity Soccer Team won a critical divisional game Thursday night against Hutchison, 5-0. In a dominating win, the Lady Eagles played a complete game with a strong defensive effort and constant pressure supplied by their midfielders and forward, Alex Bickenbach. Junior Kara Krajenta had her second consecutive complete-game shut-out in goal allowing Coach Knowles to try a different strategy to provide spark on the attack, by putting Senior, All-State Goalie Julie Eckel on the field. The strategy paid off well as Eckel had a "hat-trick" of three goals versus the Sting, her fifth goal in the two last games. The team plays their last region game against Briarcrest at home next Tuesday.

The JV Soccer Team got back on the winning track with a 2-1 victory over the Bolton. Once again, a stalwart defense and a ball controlling offense enabled the team to come out on the winning end of another tough match. Their record is 8-3-3 with one game remaining. The Varsity squad celebrated their Senior Night with an overwhelming 8-0 victory also against the Bolton. The school, coaches, families and students in attendance recognized seniors Alex Bickenbach, Tori Cullen, Julie Eckel and Flori Smith for their accomplishments and dedication to the team and to the school.  All four seniors have brought great credit to the team and to the school with their sportsmanship, teamwork and athletic skills. The game was another dominant effort by the defense, who posted their eighth shutout of the season, accompanied by strong support from the offense that kept the Bolton team on their heels all night. To cap off the night, all four seniors scored goals in a memorable game for all. Record 6-2-5.

The Lady Eagles JV played a tough game against Houston JV with final score, 0-3. The ladies played a good game with freshman goalie Vicki Stepherson making some excellent saves. With four players being out with either injuries or illness we ran out of gas in the second half against a Houston team with 27 players on the roster!  JV's record is now 7-3-3.

The Lady Eagles Soccer Team played division rival St. Agnes to a 1-1 tie at St. Agnes. Down 1-0 at halftime, the girls kicked it up in the second half to tie the game on an Alex Bickenbach goal, with an assist by Julie Eckel. Kara Krajenta pitched a shut-out during her time in goal in relief of Eckel, who provided a needed spark to the team while playing the field. The Lady Eagles have a 5-2-5 record, posted against very tough competition. Their rankings reflect how far they've come this season, as they are currently ranked third in the Memphis metro area by the Commercial Appeal and fourth in the state in D2AA. Their next game is against Bolton High School on Thursday, Oct 7 when the Lady Eagles will celebrate Soccer Senior Night for their four senior members Alex Bickenbach, Tori Cullen, Julie Eckel and Flori Smith. The JV followed with a 0-1 loss to St. Agnes.


September 24-25, 2010

Congrats to the JV Girls Soccer Team for winning St George's "Smackdown" JV Tournament this weekend. They won two and tied one game with 15-1 goal margin, enough to secure the championship.


September 23, 2010

The SBA  JV suffered its first loss of the season against the Collierville JV team (0-4). Their record is now 5-1-2. The JV plays in the St. George's "Smackdown" JV tournament this weekend.  The Varsity team tied a very good Collierville squad in an away game 2-2. Alex Bickenbach and Julie Eckel scored goals for the Lady Eagles. They are currently ranked 3rd in the city and 6th in the state in Div 2AA.  Their next game is at divisional rival St. Agnes next Thursday.

The girls played two hard games at Briarcrest. The JV team dominated their game and won 4-1. The varsity played a solid match against a tough Briarcrest team with a strong defense and played to a draw, 0-0. Both teams play at Collierville on Thursday.   


September 18-19, 2010

Girls Soccer traveled to the Nashville area for two interstate games. Scores were SBA 2, Franklin Road Academy 2 and SBA 1-Fr. Ryan 2.  Record now stands at 5-2-2 with an important region game on Tuesday at Briarcrest.


September 16, 2010

The Lady Eagles Soccer Team defeated division rivals Hutchison, 8-0. This brings their record to 5-1-1 with 6 shutouts! The JV team played a tough game against the Collierville HS JV team and tied 1-1. Their record is 4-0-2 and this is the first goal allowed by the JV all season. The Varsity will be traveling this weekend to Nashville to play against Franklin Road Academy and Father Ryan High School.

Varsity SBA 10-Cordova 0. The lady Eagles varsity soccer was sparked by senior Goalkeeper Julie Eckel who scored a hat trick with three goals as well as posting another shutout with junior Goalie Kara Krajenta, who also scored on a beautiful, unassisted corner kick. Senior Alex Bickenbach had two assists and scored twice for her team-leading eighth goal. Senior Defender Flori Smith added three assists for the Lady Eagles. Her record now stands at 4-1-1 heading into a crucial divisional matchup with Hutchison on Thursday at SBA.  Eight players scored for the JV team, as they remained undefeated and have yet to allow a goal under Freshman Vicky Stepherson. The JV's record stands at 4-0-1.

Varsity SBA 0 - PJPII 0. Two good soccer games this weekend for the Lady Eagles. The varsity tied a very good Pope John Paul II team 0-0. This is the team that beat us in the playoffs last year 1-0. It was a very hard fought game with a tremendous defensive effort. This is the team's fourth shutout in five games. Record is 3-1-1. The JV blew out the Germantown JV 9-0. The JV record is 3-0-1. They have also shut out all four of their opponents. The teams travel to Cordova High Monday and on Thursday the Varsity faces a tough district opponent, Hutchison, at SBA at 7pm.  The JV plays the preceding game against a tough Collierville squad at 5pm.

Varsity SAA 4 – SBA 1. The Lady Eagles fought hard against the defending State Champs, but came up short. Scoring for the Eagles was Alex Bickenbach with an assist from Julie Eckel. The Varsity record is now 3-1-0. The JV had a good game and tied 0-0 with strong defensive play. JV's record is 2-0-1.

The girls soccer JV team beat White Station 2-0 with the goals by Natalie Sowell and Theresa Stoddard giving the team a record of 2-0. The varsity also swept White Station, 5-0 with goals by Julie Eckel unassisted, Eckel assisted by Alex Bickenbach, Chelsea Casaccia assisted by Eckel, Bickenbach (2) assisted by Carly Downing and Allie Cumings. The varsity also now has an undefeated record of 3-0.

SBA Girls Varsity 3, Harding 0. This win over Harding gives the varsity another shutout and a record of 2-0. Scoring for the Lady Eagles was Alex Bickenbach assisted by Chelsea Casaccia, Carly Downing assisted by Bickenbach and Flori Smith unassisted. Again, Julie Eckel and Kara Krajenta kept their opponents scoreless as keepers. The JV team is also 1-0. The next games are against White Station at home, next Tuesday, JV at 5 and Varsity at 7pm.

SBA JV 3, Arlington 0; SBA Varsity 5, Arlington 0. Both girls soccer teams shutout Arlington in the season and home opener. The varsity was led was Alex Brickenbach with two goals and Rachel Sowell, Chelsea Casaccia and Julie Eckel each with one. Eckel started as keeper with Kara Krajenta coming in later to keep Arlington scoreless. The Commercial Appeal calls Eckel, “a threat,” in D2AA West Division play this season.
