May 9, 2012

The Lady Eagles finished their regular season at home defeating Briarcrest 4-2 on Senior Night. The Eagles honored their three seniors Cathy Holmes, Jennie Gerard and Caitlin Terry before the game. The win seals St. Benedict's 15th West Regional title in the last 17 years and its fifth in a row. Hanna Dennis picked up her 14th win giving up five hits while striking out five Lady Saints. The Lady Eagles used a four-run third inning capped off by Dennis' two RBI's and Olivia Parsels’ and Kendal Pearson's RBI to grab a 4-0 lead. Pearson would be 2-3 to lead the Eagles. The Lady Eagles will now wait to play the winner of the #4 vs. #8 seed from the East/Middle Region next week. Two wins would grant them to the final four in Murfreesboro the following week. Their record stands at 23-16-1.


May 3, 2012

The Lady Eagles are 3-0 in Regional play after beating St. Agnes 3-2 in eight innings. Down to their final out, Kendal Pearson kept the game alive by scoring Jennie Gerard with a base hit up the middle. In the extra frame Paige Murin knocked in Morgan Patrick to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Hanna Dennis' suicide squeeze would provide the insurance run needed putting the Eagles up 3-1. Dennis would get St. Agnes' lead-off hitter to hit into a double play to end the game. Dennis finished the game with 10 strikeouts and moved her record to 13-12 on the season. The Lady Eagles are now 22-16-1 on the season. Murin and Pearson each had two hits.


May 2, 2012

The Lady Eagles played their final non-league game of the year against Trinity Christian. Despite grabbing a quick 2-0 lead, the Lady Eagles could not hold on, losing 4-2. The Eagles mustered six hits and Lizzie Ryan had the second RBI. MacKenzie Haney pitched a complete game pitching out of many jams behind a solid defense lead by Ryan and Paige Murin.


May 1, 2012

The Lady Eagles traveled to Eads to take on Briarcrest in their second regional game of the year on Tuesday. A nine-run seventh inning sealed a 13 -2 victory and moved the Eagles to 2-0 in Regional play. In the third inning with two outs, Paige Murin blasted her third home run of the season scoring Kendal Pearson giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead.  The Eagles took the lead for good in the sixth when Bailey Coppedge reached on an error scoring Kendal Pearson. Pearson lead the seventh inning off with a base hit and the onslaught began.  In the inning Pearson, Murin, Olivia Parsels and Connor Knott all had two hits. Murin had three RBI's while Knott and Pearson had two RBI's each. Hanna Dennis pitched a complete game scattering six hits while striking out four. Dennis is 11-11 on the season and the Lady Eagles are 21-15-1.


April 27 & 28, 2012

The Lady Eagles participated in the Coffee County Classic finishing runner-up in the 25- team tournament. In the opening game Lizzie Ryan knocked in two RBI's to lead the Lady Eagle offense.MacKenzie Haney chalked up the win going the distance giving up three runs.  In the nightcap, Lizzie Ryan was 3-3, but it would not be enough as the Eagles would lose to Ravenwood 3-2. Paige Murin stole home in the last inning to tie the game, but Ravenwood would score in the bottom frame to end the game. On Saturday SBA beat Carter 3-0 to finish pool play 2-1 MacKenzie Haney worked through tough situations the whole game to earn the shutout. Jennie Gerard provided the go ahead RBI in the fifth inning. In the first round of bracket play, the Eagles cruised past Tullahoma 6-2. Hanna Dennis was 2-2 at the plate and pitched a complete game giving up one earned run. In the second round, the Lady Eagles were down early to White House 4-0 but woke up to get a 9-6 victory. Paige Murin was 3-3 at the plate. The Eagles scored seven runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. Bailey Coppedge and Jennie Gerard had two hits and two RBI's. MacKenzie Haney picked up her sixth win of the season. In the semi-finals an Olivia Parsels’ solo home run in the top of the sixth propelled the Lady Eagles to the finals. Lizzie Ryan stayed hot going 2-3. Hanna Dennis went the distance for the Eagles pitching a strong six innings. In the championship game, the Lady Eagles had the tying run at the plate in the final inning but would be denied losing to Lincoln County 2-0.  Jennie Gerard doubled with two outs but Kendal Pearson would fly out to right center field to end the game. Hanna Dennis had a great defense behind her all game to keep it close but it would not be enough.  The Lady Eagles are now 20-15-1 on the season.


April 26, 2012

The Lady Eagles traveled to Covington to play the Lady Chargers in a non-league game. Despite Hanna Dennis's spectacular day at the plate and the mound, the Eagles dropped a nail biter 3-2. Dennis was 1-3 at the plate hitting a home run over the centerfield field fence. She was also a workhorse on the mound pitching six innings giving up one earned run.  Olivia Parsels was 2-3 and Morgan Patrick drew two walks. The Eagles are 15-13-1.


April 24, 2012

The Lady Eagles traveled to Tipton-Rosemark and came away with a 5-2 victory. Paige Murin, Hanna Dennis and Olivia Parsels each had multiple hits. Parsels is hitting .825 in her last three games. Hanna Dennis went the distance on the mound, gaining her ninth win of the season. The Lady Eagles now stand at 15-12-1.


April 20, 2012

The Lady Eagles took on Father Ryan in Clarksville getting an 8-4 victory.  MacKenzie Haney settled down after a tough first inning to get the victory.Paige Murin led the offense with three hits including a lead-off home run. Haney and Murin had two RBIs to lead the Lady Eagles. Michelle Farler executed a suicide squeeze in the third inning to help wake up the Eagle bats.


April 19, 2012

The Lady Eagles played host to Fayette Academy in a non-league game. Despite Paige Murin's two hits the Eagles would fall 8 to 3. St. Benedict would put base runners on all night only to leave them stranded. Hanna Dennis had two hits and Bailey Coppedge added two RBI's to lead the Eagle offense.


April 17, 2012

The Lady Eagles began region play against St. Agnes and came away with a 12-1 victory in five innings. Paige Murin and Olivia Parsels had three hits to lead the Lady Eagles. Connor Knott and Lizzie Ryan had two hits in the 13 hit attack. Hanna Dennis drove in three runs. Parsels and Knott drove in two runs to add to the cause.  Dennis and MacKenzie Haney scattered six hits over five innings. The Lady Eagles are now 12-11-1 overall and 1-0 in Region play.


April 13, 2012

The Lady Eagles got back on the winning side, again, defeating Hernando, 6-0.  Hanna Dennis only allowed one hit while striking out five Lady Tigers. Olivia Parsels had a great day at the plate going 3-3. Dennis chipped in two hits as well. Connor Knott and Paige Murin both had two RBI's to lead the offense. The Lady Eagles are now 11-11-1 on the season.


April 10, 2012

The Lady Eagles hosted the #1 ranked team in the Commercial Appeal's Dandy Dozen, Lake Cormorant, Wednesday evening. While the Lady Eagles out hit their opponents they would come up short losing 4 to 2. Hannah Dennis continued her dominating presence holding the Lady Gators to five hits in the losing effort. Lizzie Ryan led the offense with two hits and came close to ending the game on a walk off home run but would be denied. The Lady Eagles have had 13 games this season decided by two or less runs. The season record is 10-11-1


April 4, 2012

The Lady Eagles traveled to Jackson to face University School of Jackson. A solo home run in the first would be enough for the Lady Bruins as they held on for the 1-0 victory. Hanna Dennis pitched a strong six-inning game, giving up only two hits. Bailey Coppedge reached base twice for the Lady Eagles. The Eagles now stand at 10-10-1.


March 30/31, 2012

The Lady Eagles participated in the Morris Hunter Invitational this weekend in Southaven, MS going 2-2. In the first game the Eagles dropped the opener to Senatobia 7-2. The Lady Eagles could only muster three hits and spotted Senatobia five runs in the first inning. Connor Knott and Paige Murin each had an RBI in the game.  In the night cap the Eagle bats woke up as they pounded out 12 hits and scored 10 runs beating Brookland, AR 10-0, Paige Murin, Hanna Dennis, and Bailey Coppedge led the assault with two hits apiece. Murin and Olivia Parsels had 2 RBI's as well. Hanna Dennis pitched a complete game giving up 3 hits. Saturday morning the Lady Eagles bats stayed hot getting 11 hits in routing Bartlett 12-0. Lizzie Ryan, Connor Knott and Olivia Parsels each had 2 hits, while MacKenzie Haney helped with 2 RBI's. Hanna Dennis would again toss another shutout giving up one hit while striking out five. In the final gam,e the Lady Eagles lost a heartbreaking game surrendering two runs in the final frame to Lake Cormorant losing 2-1. Hanna Dennis kept a very potent Gator offense at bay until the final inning. The Eagles are now 10-9-1 for the season.


March 28, 2012

The Lady Eagles lost a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to Colliervillet. MacKenzie Haney threw a strong 51/3 innings but it was not enough. Paige Murin drove in Lizzie Ryan for SBA's lone RBI. Murin got on base three times. The Eagles record is 8-7-1.


March 26, 2012

The Lady Eagles softball team seized a ninth inning victory over neighbor Arlington to capture a 6-5 victory. Hanna Dennis knocked in two runs and Bailey Coppedge provided what would be the game winner in the ninth frame. The game would see a total of five lead changes. Dennis also went the distance on the mound totaling 130 pitches throwing 98 for strikes. The Lady Eagles are now 5-2 in one run games this season. Their record now stands at 8-6-1.


March 24, 2012

The Lady Eagles hosted the number one ranked team in Mississippi, Madison Central, from Jackson, Mississippi. The Eagles fought hard but left the tying run stranded at third base losing 2-1. Hanna Dennis pitched another stellar game in the loss, only giving up four hits and striking out four. Connor Knott lead the Lady Eagles with two hits and Olivia Parsels delivered the lone RBI in the seventh inning. Kendal Pearson anchored a strong outfield throwing out a would-be third run in the fifth inning. The Lady Eagles now stand at 7-6-1.


March 23, 2012

The Lady Eagles made the trek down to face the #4 ranked team in Mississippi 6A-the South Panola Lady Tigers. Despite a two-hit six strikeout game, Hanna Dennis would take the loss 2-0. Two errors in the fourth inning would allow two runs to score, and that is all South Panola would need. However the defense was led by Connor Knott's diving double play effort in right field and Olivia Parsels' anchoring the catching position to keep the game close.


March 21, 2012

SBA Softball did not fare well in their home opener with DeSoto Central, losing, 10-4.  The Lady Eagles could not make up a 5-0 first inning deficit. Lizzie Ryan had a great day at the plate going two for four4 with a double. The Eagles now stand at 7-4.


March 18, 2012

The Lady Eagles were sent home early in bracket play Sunday morning at the Commando Classic losing to Gallatin 4-2. Hanna Dennis pitched four-hit softball and gathered two hits at the plate. However, the Lady Eagles would strand seven base runners and commit three errors. Despite the loss the Lady Eagles finished with a 7-3-1 record. Hanna Dennis and Paige Murin were named to the Classic All-Tournament team. The Lady Eagles open up their regular season with a home opener against DeSoto Central this Wednesday.


March 17, 2012

After two days of rain the Lady Eagles were back on the field Saturday for three games at the Commando Classic. In game one, the Lady Eagles would score four runs in the final inning to complete a three run comeback against Florence, Alabama. Connor Knott had a great day at the plate getting two hits including knocking in the game winning run. Hanna Dennis added two hits and batted in two runs as well. Kendal Pearson picked up her first varsity win in relief of starter Mackenzie Haney.

In game two Hanna Dennis continued her dominance on the mound holding a very potent Gibbs team to three runs and seven hits. The Lady Eagles pounded out 10 hits led by Michelle Farler, Lizzie Ryan, Connor Knott, and Olivia Parsels. Parsels hit her first home run in a Lady Eagle uniform. The game would finish in a 3-3 tie.

In the final game, Mackenzie Haney recorded the final two outs with bases loaded in relief of Kendal Pearson who pitched a strong four and a third innings to preserve a 4 to 3 victory over White House. Jennie Gerard and Michelle Farler led the offense with two hits apiece. A great diving play by Hanna Dennis at first sparked the defense.  The Lady Eagles are now 7-2-1 on the season.


March 14, 2012

The Softball Lady Eagles split a pair of games today at the Commando Classic.The Lady Eagles lost a tough first game against the host team, Hendersonville 5-2. Despite outhitting their opponents, led by Paige Murin, the Eagles would strand 6 runners in the loss. Kendal Pearson pitched well in relief of starter Mackenzie Haney keeping the opponents at bay. In game two, Hanna Dennis outpitched her counterpart from Science Hill in a pitchers’ duel, getting the 1-0 victory. Dennis pitched a complete game giving up two hits while striking out four Hilltoppers. Connor Knott provided the timely two out RBI scoring Ashley Banks in the second inning. Catcher Olivia Parsels gunned down two would be stolen base attempts to help keep the game scoreless. The Lady Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season.


March 13, 2012

The St. Benedict Lady Eagles swept two games today at the Commando Classic in Hendersonville, TN. In game one the Lady Eagles used a four run second inning to key a 6 to 4 victory over Arlington. A Lizzie Ryan RBI double and a Jennie Gerard RBI helped jump start the second inning. Morgan Patrick added two RBI's in the victory. Hanna Dennis scattered seven hits to get her second victory of the season. In game two, the Eagles were helped by the bat of Paige Murin. Murin was 2-3 with a triple and an inside the park home run and led the team with 3 RBI's. Hanna Dennis added 2 RBI's as well. MacKenzie Haney picked up her first Win in the 2012 season with a complete game effort giving up 3 hits. The Lady Eagles are now 3 -1 on the season.


March 12, 2012

The St. Benedict Lady Eagles kicked off the 2012 season with an 18 to 0 rout over Sycamore in the Commando Classic in Hendersonville. Michelle Farler led the 17- hit attack going 3 for 4 with two home runs and 5 RBI's. Jennie Gerard was 2 for 3 with three RBI's. Lizzie Ryan, Paige Murin, Kendal Pearson and Olivia Parsels each added two hits. Hanna Dennis and Kendal Pearson combined to pitch a no-hitter. In the second game St. Benedict lost a heartbreaker in the final inning to Meigs County 4 to 3. Michelle Farler stayed hot going 3 for 3at the plate. Lizzie Ryan contributed two hits in the losing effort. Hanna Dennis took the loss in a solid relief appearance for starter Mackenzie Haney.
