Congratulations to SBA track & field for their exciting performances at the state tournament. Almost all participants finished at their “seed” time/jump/vault or better. Special congratulations to Michael Caprio who was seeded 6th and finished 3rd with a school record breaking vault of 13’.

Congratulations to the track and field athletes on many fabulous performances at last week’s Region Tournament. The first two finishers automatically advance to the State Tournament. After the top teams in the east and middle qualify, there are 3 remaining “wildcards” to fill a total of 8 places. As for the Region Tournament, the top six finishers scored points for the team.

The field events of the Region Track & Field Meet were held yesterday at MUS. Congratulations to the following athletes who placed in the Top 6 and scored points for the team:
- Michael Caprio-4th in pole vault
- Allie Cumings-6th in long jump
- Katelyn Graham-3rd in long jump
- Josh Stoddard-6th in high jump
Special congratulations to Luke James for placing 2nd in the triple jump and advancing to the state finals and to Dee Blakely who is the REGION CHAMPION in the shot put! Good luck to the 3200 runners this afternoon, as well as the sprinters looking to qualify out of today's preliminaries into Friday’s finals.

Julie Eckel finished 5th in the Region Pentathlon with 2,306 points, earning points for the region team, and Katelyn Graham came in 8th with 1,802. There were 14 competitors in the event.

The Eagles had a tough track & field meet in the wind against Briarcrest, St. George’s and Rossville. The girls won 15 out of 18 events which led to their overall first place finish. The boys placed first in the 3200, 800 and pole vault, finishing second overall.
April 8-9, 2011
The SBA track & field team participated in the Houston Track & Field Classic which is the biggest meet in the state of Tennessee with over 30 schools participating. The girls, led by first place finishes by the Distance Medley and 4 x 800 teams, placed 10th overall. Luke James’ second place triple jump performance helped the boys finished 12th. The level of competition was excellent and we had some outstanding performances, with a few school records broken: Girls Distance Medley: Julie Eckel, Katelyn Graham, Shannon Rooker, Madison Lessley Girls Sprint Medley: Kaitlyn Favorite, Allie Cumings, Sarah Patchen, Julie Eckel Boys Distance Medley: Daniel LaForce, Ryne Wilson, Colin Pitawanakwat, Jay Gilman Congratulations also to Luke James who barely missed the triple jump record by 1/2 in.

The track teams traveled to MUS for a tough meet in the rain. The girls went up against St. Agnes, St. Mary’s, Hutchison, and Germantown and captured first place in the overall scoring. They won several relays and placed second in several individual events. Katelyn Graham came away with a first place finish in the long jump. The boys competed against MUS and Germantown. They took first place in the 3200 relay, the 3200 run (Colin Pitawanakwat) and the triple jump (Luke James).
