October 26, 2011

The Lady Eagles Volleyball took on Ensworth and Baylor in the State Final Four in Murfreesboro and came up short losing both matches in three very close sets. The score in the Ensworth match was SBA 24, 22, 20 vs Ensworth 26, 25, 25 and the Baylor score was SBA 20, 22, 18 vs Baylor 25, 25,25. The Lady Eagles finish the year with a Final Four appearance, region runner-up position and a 34-11 overall record.


October 22, 2011

It took five sets, but the St. Benedict Lady Eagles Volleyball Team advanced, once again, to the State Final Four with a victory over Chattanooga Girls Preparatory School (GPS), 25-23, 28-26, 24-26, 24-25, 17-15. The Lady Eagles and GPS each played very strong volleyball in the first two sets with the Lady Eagles leading throughout both sets, but GPS came back with steady playing and took the next two sets. The final game was close throughout with SBA leading from the start, but allowing the Bruisers to tie it up late to take the match to a 15-15 tie. SBA held their composure and came back to get the next two points. The Eagles advance with a 34-9 record for the year and play either Harpeth Hall or Ensworth in the tournament in Murfreesboro starting Wednesday at Blackman High School and MTSU.


October 13, 2011

The Lady Eagles varsity volleyball team closed out the regular season with a win over ECS in four sets-25-19, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-22. The Lady Eagles are 33-9 for the season and runner-up in the Region. They host the quarterfinals round of the State Tournament on Sat., Oct. 22 with team and time TBD.


October 7 & 8, 2011

The Lady Eagles traveled to Franklin for the Mid-Tenn Tournament and were one of the eight top teams out of 46 in the tournament. The team finished at 5-2 for the weekend advancing to the quarterfinals of the gold bracket. Scores for SBA during the tournament were:

  • SBA vs Blackmon JV 25-8, 25-9;
  • SBA vs. Sale Creek, 25-12, 25-10;
  • SNA vs. Knox Catholic, 25-16, 25-21;
  • SBA vs. Sullivan South, 18-25, 26-24, 11-15;
  • SBA vs. GPS, 25-14, 25-23;
  • SBA vs. Covenant, 25-20, 25-20 and
  • SBA vs. Centennial, 22-25, 21, 25.

The Lady Eagles’ record stands at 32-9 for year.


October 6, 2011

The JV volleyball team finished their stellar season with a win over Harding 25-15, 25-19. Overall record: 28-4


October 4, 2011

The Lady Eagles Freshmen Volleyball Team had a fairly easy time of it defeating St. Agnes25-19, 25-9 (record 16-2), while the JV and Varsity lost their matches. The JV held strong after losing 20-25 in the first set, by winning the 2nd set 25-15 only to lose 15-13 in the last set. Their record stands at 27-4 and the Varsity lost in a lopsided match 25-12, 25-15 and 25-18 to stand at 2nd in the region behind St. Agnes. The Varsity overall record is 27-7 and 4-2 in the region.  


October 3, 2011

While the freshmen had the night off, the JV and Varsity hosted ECS in neighborhood rival matches, with the JV winning in 2 sets 25, 21 and 25-13. Their record is now 28-3 and the varsity won in 3 sets, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-17. The varsity holds a 27-6 record for the year.


October 1, 2011

The Lady Eagles freshman volleyball team won the Collierville Tournament with a sweep of all games - Pool play SBA beat Hutch 25 – 15, 25-5; SBA beat Germantown 25-9, 25-10; SBA beat St Agnes 25-10, 25-12; Semi-finals SBA beat Houston 25-14, 25-20.Finals SBA beat Collierville 26-24, 21-25, 15-12. Three girls were selected to the All-tournament team: Britney Bost, Nicole Harty and Rachel Powell was tournament MVP. The Eagles extend their record to 15-2 for the year.


September 29, 2011

The Lady Eagles volleyball teams swept Bolton with the Freshmen (11-2) winning 25-8, 25-7, the JV (27-3) winning 25-12, 25-10 and the Varsity (26-6) winning 25-19, 25-16, 25-11. The JV and Varsity host ECS on Monday with Senior Night celebrations.


September 28, 2011

Lady Eagles JV and Varsity teams took on St. George’s and both Eagle teams came away the victors. The JV won 25-11, 25-18 for a record of 26-3 and the varsity won in three sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21 extending their winning record, 25-6. The Lady Eagles travel to Bolton for a non-region match on Thursday.


September 27, 2011

The Lady Eagles volleyball teams handily defeated Briarcrest in a region match-up. The Freshmen took two games, 25-14, 25-19, to extend their record to10-2, the JV took two games, 25-11, 25-5, also extending their record to 25-3 and the Varsity took three games, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-23. Their record is 24-5 overall and 4-1 in the region. The teams host on St. George’s next.


September 21, 2011

The Lady Eagles’ volleyball teams had a three-team sweep over Hutchison in region action. The Freshmen won in 2 sets, 25-16, 15-4 extending their record to 9-2 for the year; the JV also won in 2 sets, 25-5, 25-15 for a record of 24-3 and the varsity in won in 4 sets, 25-16, 25-11, 23-25 and 25-21 to extend their record to 23-5 . The Lady Eagles continue in region action next Tuesday when they host Briarcrest.


September 19, 2011

The Lady Eagles’ JV and varsity volleyball teams extended their wins by beating Brighton in matches at SBA. The JV won in two, 25-19, 25-12 to give them a 23-3 record and the varsity won in three, 25-11, 25-17, 25-23 for a record of 22-5. The Eagles host another region match-up on Wednesday against Hutchison at 4:00/5:00 and 6:00.


September 16-17, 2011

The Freshmen, JV and Varsity traveled to out-of-town tournaments this weekend with all doing well. The Freshmen scores are:

    • vs Greenwood 25-10, 18-25, 25-10;
    • vs Green County 21-25, 9-25, 21-25.
  • Bracket play
    • vs Whitehouse 21-6, 21-16;
    • vs Lone Oak 21-11, 21-19

    • vs Green County 15-21, 9-21.

The Freshmen had a 2nd place finish to a very tough Green County High School Their record stands at 8-2.

The JV team had a fabulous performance this weekend, winning the Independence Tournament.  They took on five  Div 1 AAA schools and one Div 1 AA school, finishing 2nd in their pool.  The Eagles worked their way back through the elimination bracket to bring home the GOLD!  Outstanding total team effort, Lady Eagles!  The JV record is now 22-3.

The Freshman Record stands at 8-2, JV at 22-3 and the varsity at 21-5.


September 14, 2011

The SBA Volleyball teams traveled to Houston for matches with the Freshmen and JV taking both of their matches – Freshmen 25-11, 25-13 and advancing their record to 5-0 and the JV winning 25-20, 25-21 advancing their record to 16-2. The varsity lost in a heated, competitive match of five games, 25-21, 14-25, 11-25, 25-19 and 12-15. The Lady Eagles’ record is 18-3 for the season as they travel to Nashville this weekend for the annual Fr. Ryan Invitational.


September 13, 2011

Congratulations to all the SBA volleyball teams on their exciting matches with St. Agnes. The Freshmen won in 2 sets 25-13, 25-19 to remain undefeated and the JV won in 3 sets 22-25, 25-23 and 15-10 bringing their record to 15-2. The varsity fought hard coming from a loss in the first set 13-25, winning the next two 25-19 and 25-17. They dropped the 4th in a close battle 25-19 and lost the 5th 15-10. The Lady Eagles are now 18-2 overall and 3-1 in the region. All teams travel to Houston today for matches at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00.


September 9 & 10, 2011

The Lady Eagles Varsity and JV Volleyball teams were formidable forces in the annual Bartlett/Bolton River City Classic.

The JV team had an exciting weekend of volleyball! They were asked to step in and play in the River City Classic Varsity Tournament after a team dropped out of the tournament Friday morning.  They finished 2nd in pool play and advanced to the Gold Division playoffs.  As the only JV team in the tournament, they finished a very respectable 8th out of 20 teams!  JV Scores were:

  • Pool Play-
    • SBA 28-25-14 vs Westside, AR 26-27-15;
    • SBA 25-25 vs Central 12-12;
    • SBA 29-25-15 vs Bolton 30-22-6;
    • SBA 25-25 vs Trinity Christian 21-22.
  • Gold Division Quarterfinals-
    • SBA 25-15-10 vs Bartlett 19-25-15.

The JV had only two losses for the tournament and now have a record of 14-2 for the year.

The Varsity was undefeated for the tournament, taking the championship with a victory over Munford. The lady Eagles are 18-1 for the year and take on region rival St. Agnes on Sept. 13. Varsity scores for the River City Classic were:

September 8, 2011

The triple threat of the Freshman, JV and Varsity Volleyball Team, again, swept their opponent (Arlington), with the freshmen winning 25-3, 25-4 to remain undefeated with a 4-0 record. The JV won in two 25-13, 25-23. They hold a record of 11-0 for the year. The Varsity extended their record to 11-1 with their three-game victory, 25-20, 25-23, 27-25. The Leady Eagles were led by Mackenzie Logue’s eight kills, Courtney Bond’s 14 assists and Caroline Sabbatini’s 13 digs.


September 6, 2011

The Lady Eagles continued on the victory side of the scoreboard with the Freshmen, JV and Varsity all beating Briarcrest on their home court. The Freshman won 25-13, 25-12 for a record of 3-0. The Jv won 25-9, 25-12 for a record of 10-0 and the varsity won in four games, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19 to extend their record to 10-1 and 2-0 in the region. Senior libero Kristina Headrick had 20 digs for the match and five service aces in the opening game. Senior setter Courtney Bond had 20 assists and was on the service line for SBA’s closing runs in the third and fourth games. Senior Kaitlyn Peperone had eight kills for the match.


September 1, 2011

The Lady Eagles swept Hutchison in the first region match-up of the year with the varsity winning 25-10, 18-25, 25-20, 25-23 and extending their record to 9-1 and 1-0 in the region. The Varsity was led by Meghan Padial’s 11 kills, Caroline Sabbatini’s 15 digs, and Courtney Bond’s 22 assists. The JV won both games, 25-14, 25-14, to extend their record to 9-0 and the Freshmen also won in two games, 25-16, 25-12, with outstanding plays by Brittney Bost and Jackie Banks.


August 30, 2011

Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team in the victory over Munford Yesterday (3-1) with scores of 25-11, 25-18, 22-25, 25-17. The Lady Eagles are now 8-1 for the season and ranked 4th in Commercial Appeal Dandy Dozen. They travel to Hutchison tomorrow for a region match-up. The JV also had success at Munford, winning SBA 25-17, 25-11.  


August 26 & 27, 2011

The varsity volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the annual Collierville Kick-off tournament losing only to a tough St. George’s team. SBA had five victories in a field of some very strong volleyball teams. Results were: SBA 25,25-Munford 17,14; SBA 25,25-Fr. Ryan 11,12; SBA25,25-Mountain Brook,AL 24,21; SBA 25,25-Arlington 11,13; SBA 25,25-Arlington 8,19 and St. George’s 25,25-SBA 18-20. The Lady Eagles are 7-1 for the season.

The JV volleyball team had an outstanding performance this weekend, scoring a “3-PEAT” at the Briarcrest Beat the Heat tournament.  The team went 6-0 for the weekend, winning every match in two sets. This is the third year in a row for the Lady Eagles to bring home the gold! Scores were: Pool Play- SBA 25, 25  Germantown  1,9; SBA 25, 25  Arlington  4, 5;SBA 25, 25 Houston 23, 18;Quarter Final-SBA 25, 25 Cordova   0, 7; Semi-Finals- SBA 25, 25 Arlington 8, 15; Finals-SBA 25, 25  Houston 7, 20.

The Lady Eagles’ three volleyball teams swept Collierville in their home opener, with the Freshman and JV (25-6,25-15) teams each winning in two games and the varsity in four – 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19. The Varsity hosts Bartlett at home tonight in their home opener at 5:00.
