After an incredible 22-1 regular season from the Eagles Wrestling team, the Eagles travelled to Franklin, TN at the Williamson County Agricenter for the State Duals tournament. They started the tournament out as underdogs against McCallie in the first round on Friday night. Due to some injury concerns, several wrestlers had to wrestle up a weight class, including Junior Andrew Nevle, Senior Mikey Bascom, and Senior Jeff Lamer. Bascom and Lamer were both successful and both defeated ranked opponents while Nevle lost a controversial one-point decision at 152 lbs. But, the team score ultimately didn’t work out in the Eagles’ favor as they fell to McCallie by a score of 49-18.

On Saturday morning the Eagles looked to regroup when they faced Brentwood Academy in the 1st round of Consolations. The Eagles started strong with victories in four of the first six matches including pins by Junior Tanner Mosier and Senior Mikey Bascom and Major Decisions from Juniors Andrew Nevle and Ben Kurtz. But Brentwood recovered in the next six matches by scoring pins at 170, 182, and 106 and receiving forfeits at 220 & 285 to clinch the match. The only win in those six matches came from senior Jeff Lamer who pinned his opponent despite having a cut over his eye that required six stitches after the match. The Eagles won the last two matches to bring the match to a heartbreaking 38-39 loss.

The Eagles look to bounce back as they begin to focus on the Individual State Tournament in two weeks. Currently (according to www.tennwrestling.com) the Eagles have six individuals who are ranked (Top 6) in Division II in their particular weight classes.
