The school is located on a beautiful 47-acre campus in northeast Shelby County.

Philosophy

The philosophy of St. Benedict at Auburndale prioritizes an environment where knowledge is illuminated and invigorated by Gospel values. This spirit of faith is embraced by the administration, teachers, students, and parents, fostering an atmosphere of freedom and love. Recognizing that each student has a unique learning style and pace, the school strives to create an environment that enhances individual strengths while addressing weaknesses. Aware that education extends beyond the classroom, St. Benedict at Auburndale aims to nurture the whole person through a diverse range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities. The institution is committed to promoting personal excellence by fostering spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and academic growth. We guide each student to appreciate their worth and dignity, discover and develop their learning potential, and harness their talents for the benefit of themselves, their families, the Church, their communities, and the world. Through this philosophy, St. Benedict at Auburndale seeks to facilitate each student's journey from dependence to self-determination and personal mastery.

In alignment with Catholic teachings, we also welcome individuals of other faith traditions, affirming that every member of the St. Benedict family, regardless of their religious background, deserves respect, dignity, and support in practicing their faith.

Memorable Moments at The Nest

In 1972, plans began to build the Auburndale School in Cordova on a 21 acre site near the Countrywood subdivision. While waiting for the completion of construction, the school moved to the old Siena College.

With the construction of the first building completed, four grades moved to Cordova for the 1973-1974 school year while four grades remained at Siena College.

Mr. Smith joined the Auburndale School full-time in 1973 as the Business Manager.

By the 1974-1975 school year, the second building was completed and all 480 students were house in Cordova.  Plans began immediately in the fall of 1974 for two major undertakings; the construction of the Upper School and applications of accreditation by the State Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Auburndale School received accreditation by the State Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school was recognized by the Memphis Association of Independent Schools as one of the fastest growing school systems in the area.

In 1976, the first Auburndale Senior Class graduated and a five year old Kindergarten was designed.

On January 14, 1988, Bishop Buechlein announced that the Catholic Diocese of Memphis had acquired the Auburndale School, which was subsequently renamed St. Benedict at Auburndale, in honor of the patron saint of Bishop Buechlein’s order. The Diocese then contacted the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia in Nashville to join SBA.

In July 2004, St. Benedict at Auburndale transitioned to its new campus located at 8250 Varnavas Drive, evolving into a high school exclusively for grades 9th through 12th.
